Citizens by birth or choice, of a common country, that country has a right to concentrate your affections. The name of AMERICAN, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations.
- George Washington

America is at a crossroads. We can choose. We can choose to continue down the path of the last 12 months: Bailouts, Buy outs, and political blather. The policies of government run health care, and the so called “Cap and Trade” policies invite an economy controlled by Washington and not by the people of Main Street America. The result of all theses policies will inevitably lead to huge tax increases and the enemy of those on a fixed income – soaring inflation.

Or we as Americans can make another choice. We can choose to protect all of our individual liberties. We can choose on the health care we need, the kinds of cars we will drive, and what kind of government we will have.

I stand with those on Main Street America – Yes, we need a government to protect us from enemies foreign and domestic – Yes, we need to ensure that the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe are safe.

What we do not need is a government that controls our everyday life, that seeks at every turn to stifle our lives with onerous taxation and regulation. We do not need a government that strives to overly control individual behavior through a series of taxes that are mere experiments in social engineering.

Let us begin a process of renewal of the American spirit – individual liberty and hard work. Let us send a different kind of representation to Washington so we can actually see different results. Let us build upon that which is good in America and correct what flaws we might have.

We must remember what Ronald Reagan taught us – We are a “shining city on a hill” – and we are the envy of the world - not just because of great resources or the beauty of our country, but because of the Spirit of America.
